How we check facts
You may make a real decision about your parents from something you read here. So here's exactly how it gets written.
Where facts come from
- Official sources first: agencies like the CDC, FTC, FBI, Medicare, Social Security and the National Institutes of Health.
- For how a phone or a watch works, the company's own help pages.
- We read the original, not someone else's summary of it. If two reports disagree, we go to the source document and say which one we used.
- A number or a rule doesn't go on the site without a link to where it came from.
What the date means
Each page lists its sources and says when we last checked them. Some official pages are old but still current, so we also show the date the source gives, if it gives one. When a figure is replaced by a new year's report, we update the page.
What we won't do
- Judge your parent's situation. Our tools show you where things stand, and the decisions belong to your family and your parent's doctor or lawyer.
- Invent experts, testimonials or customers. Our stories are made up, and every one says so.
- Promise a health result.
- Sell Medicare leads or take referral fees from nursing homes or assisted living.
What happens to your answers
Our checklists and self-checks run in your browser. What you tick or type isn't sent to us. We count how often a tool is used, with no way of telling who used it. Read our privacy page.
AI
We use AI to help with research and drafts. Every fact is checked against its official source before it goes up. More on how we use AI.
How we make money
We sell one thing so far: the Family Page. Later, we plan to sell more family gifts, and to include some paid links to products on Care pages. Any paid link will be marked right next to it, and the free option will come first. Payment won't change what we say.
